Hey everyone, I've found two tutorials on mixing down on cubase. Basically, you want to cut out the low and high ends of every sound to give it more head room. Play with the volume. Use the compressor to level off the dynamics and peaks of frequencies more tame/unison.
Anyways, I found these lovely tutorials on youtube. I hope they help you with your production. You can apply these concepts to any production. For the reverb he just sampled the reverb with convolution reverb unit. The best sounds are the Lexicon reverb plates. If you want to do more advanced reverb sound effects i would recommend you put the reverb on the send channel eq and compress there for taste. For compression it's the threshold and ratio. I would start from 3.0 then move my way up. Play the threshold until the sound sounds nice.
This is free tutorial series on how to mix a track. They use izotope ozone and the creator of this video tutorial talks about how to mix kicks, snares, basses, and how to make leads and basses more wide. I hope you enjoy these free tutorials I found on youtube. This will in term improve your mix down and make your track sounds less mushy. These skills can be applied to any genre.
This is an article about how to make your kick drum sound louder. Basically, you would stereo your lead and cut the bass of the lead. This will make room for the kick drum. In addition, you want to compress your kick drum so it will blend well into the mix. In addition, sidechain you kick drum with your track you will get that nice hard hitting kick. Very subtle side chain so it doesn't seem like it's hard side chained. Sidechain everything except for the kick and snare.
First I would roll off the bass 20hz-250hz off from the lead because your kick occupies these frequencies and you want to make room for the kick drum to hit hard. Your lead can occupy all the other frequencies.
You would want to compress your kick with parallel compression, I used the preset for demonstration. Do what ever ratio of compression you see fit. Push the threshold until the kick distorts or how strong you want to compress to kick. Remember it's preference and how you shape your sounds. Keep the attack very low and keep on turning the release until you hear no more distortion.
Lastly, stereo your lead. Do not stereo your kick. Stereo your lead so it widens and gives room for you kick to kick in the middle. This will also provide space for your kick to hit harder.
