Sound Patch Design or Music Theory?

What is the Future of music?

Well the basis of music is music theory, which is rhythm, chords, and scales. The base of music is the melody which is created from the scale of the chord progression. Plus, whatever rhythm your trying to do. It can be a simple 4 by 4 or syncopated rhythm made from random hi hats (pots and pan sounds). It's all white noise waveform from the synthesizer and mixture of square or sine wave. However you synthesize it.

This brings into consideration the mastering part or the mixdown. Which is basically, you're on your mixture board trying to lower the volume, pan (left and right), figuring out how loud or quiet a sound should be. Does the stereo atmosphere match. EQ, subtract and add frequencies. Hence, making your sounds not sounding mushy and everything being able to be heard.

Yes, music theory is the most important basis of music or it's just dissonant (hardcore). Which, I don't know why people like. If you like dissonance then listen to hardcore. If you like music, listen to pop, which is pure chords with the AABA composition. Verse-Verse-Chorus-Verse.

I've been producing for 2 somewhat years. Signed? Nope. But I can tell you one thing I've been doing for a very long time and making music is a very complex/fun hobby. Making money on it is a big question? You can money with music by spinning, selling mp3s on itunes/beatport, djing, selling your synths and samples.

But to me music should be free, it's freedom of expression and if you like doing it. Might as well make it for free. Money should be made from gigs, selling sounds, and samples. Even though sometimes a track takes a long time to make, it's worth it for the fans. If nobody listens to your work. You are no body.

Yes, music theory and sound design is work of art as of itself. Which is better? I'll say sound design, because I'm sound design advocate.

Does the VSTs matter?

Yes it does, you must have the top dollar vst or gear to get the professional sound. But practice on the stuff you have. I heard amazing tracks made from FL Studios, Reason, Cubase, Ableton Live, and many other DAWs. It's how you synthesize, arrange, create melodies, and layer sounds. Plus, your mixdown and mastering has to be top notch. Nobody wants to hear sounds bleeding into one another.

Basically, may the best producer win. Is your song catchy? Every genre has it's place.

My favorite genre will always be EDM. Harder Styles (distorted kick drums), Dubstep (New Gen, not old school), and Complextro (glitch wobble bass house) house.

Sine, Saw, Square, and White noise. Sampling, stretch, reverse, add effects. Sound sound sound.
